R-Series spherical displays
One geometry at a range of scales. The R designation is the radius in feet — an R5 is a five-foot radius part — so the families run from a desk to a full facility without changing what the surface does.
Every family is the same argument at a different size: a true spherical surface, with angular relationships preserved at the design eyepoint, and no seams, facets or blend zones anywhere on it. What changes with scale is the audience — one operator, a crew, a classroom, a watch floor — and the module specification that suits the viewing distance.
| Family | Radius | Diameter |
|---|---|---|
| R5 | 5 ft | 9.84 ft / 3 m |
| R7 | 7 ft | 14 ft / 4.26 m |
| R9 | 9 ft | 18 ft / 5.49 m |
| R14 | 14 ft | 28 ft / 8.53 m |
| R20 | 20 ft | 40 ft / 12.2 m |
| R28 | 28 ft | 56 ft / 17.07 m |
Desktop and small-footprint configurations. 180° horizontal, and 360° with the extension.
Briefing and small classroom scale.
Crew and cockpit-facing configurations.
Theater and classroom scale. The fielded system at NASA Johnson Space Center is an R14.
Large facility scale.
The largest family in the line.
Configuration detail — degrees of horizontal and vertical field, pixel pitch, mounting, drive and power — varies per installation and lives in the cut sheets rather than here. Ask us and we will send them.
